(May 1, 2018)  – Danville Community College’s (DCC) Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter earned national recognition at the PTK Catalyst convention in April.
The Upsilon Phi chapter was one of only 123 chapters to receive national recognition among PTK’s 1,300 chapters and received the following awards: Distinguished Chapter Award, Honors in Action Project Award, and Top 100 Chapters during PTK’s 2018 Annual Convention in Kansas City, Mo.
Assistant Professor of English Sherry Gott and Assistant Professor of Sociology Vickie Taylor serve as advisors to DCC’s PTK chapter.
“I wanted to personally congratulate and thank you for your support of Phi Theta Kappa,” said PTK President and CEO Lynn Tincher-Ladner to DCC President Bruce Scism in an email on Tuesday. “I know an award-winning chapter has a dedicated advisor and a supportive president. Thank you for all you do, big and small, to give these amazing students the increased confidence and opportunities that come from the success of their chapter.”
Gott, Taylor, and Instructor of Biology Chris Pantazis also earned one of the 15 Distinguished Advisor Team awards.
PTK, headquartered in Jackson, Miss., is the largest honor society in higher education. PTK was established by Missouri two-year college presidents in 1918, and serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through honors, leadership, and service programming.
