About The President

BERKLEY CARLYLE RAMSEY, PhD

Dr. B. Carlyle Ramsey was born in South Boston, VA. He received his B.A. degree in History from the University of Florida, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in History from Florida State University. Ramsey was appointed the fourth President of Danville Community College on March 1, 1992. He also has served in the following positions: Assistant Vice Chancellor, Virginia Community College System (VCCS), 1989-1992; Dean of Instruction and Student Development at DCC, 1987-1988; Vice President of Academic Affairs, Union College (KY), 1984-1987; and Assistant Academic Dean and Division Chair, South Georgia College, 1973-1984.

Dr. Ramsey serves on a number of local, regional and national boards including the Danville Development Council (former chair); Halifax County Industrial Development Authority (former chair); Danville-Pittsylvania County and Halifax County Chambers of Commerce (former chair); Institute for Advanced Learning and Research; Southern Virginia Higher Education Center; and the Rural Community College Alliance (former chair). He also served as President of the Association of Virginia Colleges and Universities. Ramsey participated in the Virginia Executive Institute and the Harvard Institute for Educational Management. He has published scholarly articles in a number of professional and trade journals. One of his areas of interest is workforce development.

He and his wife, Rosemary, have two children, Stephanie and David, and one granddaughter.
