Internet and Electronic Resources
Students have access to a vast array of Internet and electronic resources including VIVA. VIVA is a collection of over 25,000 electronic books, more than 170 research databases with over 20,000 full-text journals, and more than two million full-text reports, pamphlets, newspapers, and professional working papers covering subject areas from science, medicine, and technology to the arts and humanities. The Internet terminals in the Library are designated for research and educational purposes only. Computer use must fall within the guidelines outlined in the VCCS Technology Standard - Personal Use as stated in the college catalog and student handbook. Inappropriate use of the Internet in the Library is prohibited. Students may access the library’s electronic resources off-campus by clicking the e-Library.
The library provides access to the Internet. Additional Internet terminals are available in the LAC. Patrons must be sixteen (16) years of age or older to search on the Internet or to use the computers in the LRC. The Internet is to be used solely for research purposes in the Library. The use of Library computers for chat lines and chat rooms, games, or to access adult sites is prohibited. Patrons who are not DCC students--"community patrons"--must sign in at the Circulation Desk in the Library. Community patrons may search 30 minutes per day on the Internet and may print a maximum of 15 pages per day. Community patrons should use the three (3) terminals which are designated for "DCC Student and Community Internet Access." Additional information is available on the LRC's Internet policy sheets available at the Circulation Desk.
