Families First Children's Center's mission is to provide a safe, high quality learning environment for all young children, to support them in developing a positive self-image and to foster a joy for learning. In addition, Families First provides a laboratory setting for the training of early childhood professionals for the benefit of the children, childcare providers, and the community. Internship is provided for students enrolled in the Early Childhood Development curriculum.We are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) through the year 2010. Of the 10,000 centers accredited across the nation, we are the only accredited child development center in Danville, Pittsylvania County, and Halifax County area. The standards of NAEYC ensure a high quality program. Excellence in curriculum; children, families, and staff relationships; and enriched learning environments are some of the NAEYC standards.
Our high quality staff consists of Director, Assistant Director, teachers, assistant teachers, a food nutritionist, and classroom aides (18 years or older). Most of our staff have at least an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Development (teachers) or are working toward their Associate Degree (assistant teachers). The ratio of supervision is 2 to 10 staff (Younger Group - Ages 16 to 30 months), 2 to 14 staff (Middle Group - Ages 30 to 42 months), and 2 to 18 staff (Older Group - Ages 42 months to public school age). We are most suitable for children from 18 months to 9 years old and are licensed for 50 slots. We offer full-time and part-time enrollments that take up less than a slot.
