How and When to Apply
The best time for you to apply for financial aid is during
January or February preceding the academic year that you plan to
attend. So try and get your taxes done early so you can
file your FAFSA on time. You may apply for financial aid for the
2008-2009 school year by completing and submitting the 2008-2009
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You may submit
a FAFSA several ways:
- through the Internet by using FAFSA on the Web.
- by mailing a paper FAFSA.
FAFSA on the Web
FAFSA on the Web is a free U.S. Department of Education web
site where you can complete a FAFSA online and submit it via the
Internet. You can use FAFSA on the Web on a personal computer
(PC) or a Macintosh that is equipped with a supported browser.
The address is
www.fafsa.ed.gov. Processing will take one to two weeks.
Applying by mail
If you would like to apply by mailing a paper FAFSA, you may
obtain an application from your high school or DCC, or by
contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center at
1-800-4FED-AID. Processing will take approximately three to four
weeks.
Priority Filing Dates
To be assured of notification of financial aid eligibility
before the beginning of the fall semester classes, the College
recommends that students apply by June 1. Students and parents are encouraged to complete all
application forms by the College's priority filing dates to be
fully considered for all federal, state, and institutional
financial aid. Late applications are accepted after the priority
filing dates but funding is not guaranteed. Likewise, students
and parents who experience a change in their financial situation
and then wish to apply for financial aid after the priority date
may still do so. Institutional assistance will be awarded based
on availability of funds. All other documents requested by the
office should also be submitted no later than July 1 to ensure
timely notification of the student's eligibility for financial
aid for fall semester.
