Deaf Awareness Program

 

“Getting Inside The Head of Sam Parker,” an entertaining, yet informative program that will increase awareness of deaf education, will be held Saturday, September 28, from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m., in Danville Community College Oliver Hall (in the Temple Building). The program is appropriate for all ages. For more information, contact Dr. Carl Amos, Coordinator of Community Services for Persons who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing, at (434) 797-8479 (v/t).

Financial Aid Workshops are offered throughout the academic year. The staff is available to assist students in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. To successfully complete the application, you will need a copy of your 2002 federal tax returns. If tax returns were not filed, please have information about any untaxed income received in 2002. DCC Fall Open House

 

Fall Open House will be held at Danville Community College on Tuesday, October 15, 2002, from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m., in Oliver Hall (located in the Temple Building). This is an opportunity for prospective students and their parents to visit the campus and discover the variety of course offerings. Information will be provided on college-transfer and engineering technology programs. Financial aid and scholarship information will also be available. Global Festival II (to view photos, click here)

 

This second annual event is set for October 22, 2002, 11:00 a.m., until 1:30 p.m., on the campus athletic field. Last year's event included representatives from 18 countries and cultures. This year's festival includes entertainment and exhibits from local businesses that have an international focus. It also includes a flag display featuring more than 30 countries; photography and art exhibits; international foods and games. The purpose is to celebrate the diversity of our great nation and to recognize the importance of a global perspective in educating our students.

Induction of students into the Upsilon Phi Chapter, Phi Theta Kappa, on Friday, October 25, 2002, 7:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church, Main Street, Danville, VA.

National Vocational-Technical Honor Society Induction

The Induction ceremony for DCC students in this honor society for two-year college students will be held Monday, November 8, at 7:00 p.m., in Oliver Hall (in the Temple Building). Image and Marketing of Engineering Technology - December 13, 2002, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center in South Boston, VA. Sponsored by DCC's Regional Center for Advanced Technology and Training (RCATT), the workshop will focus on strategies for marketing and promoting engineering technology education. The featured speaker is Dr. George Sehi, Dean of Industrial and Engineering Technology at Sinclair Community College, in Dayton, OH. Photography Exhibit - Now through December 18, 2002, in the Clement Learning Resources Center. Hours: M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The exhibit features the photographic works of Danville Community College current and former students.  The show includes both color and black-and-white photographs from more than 20 current and former photography students.  The display highlights student photos from classes in landscape photography, portrait photography, commercial photography, portrait and object lighting, and darkroom techniques.  It is representative of the photography curriculum at DCC and taught by professional photographer Mike Compson. January 2003

College Day 2003, sponsored by Danville Community College Alliance for Excellence and the Cherrystone Missionary Baptist Association of Churches, Inc., will be held Saturday, January 11, 2003 at the Cherrystone Association Center (located 5551 Tom Fork Road, in Ringgold).  The event will be held 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., and is offered free to the public.  For more information,

 

K.J. James, the South Carolina Bluesman, will be presenting “Footstompin’ Blues and Boogie,” Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at Danville Community College.   The performance, offered free to the public, will be held at 7:30 p.m., in Oliver Hall (located in the Temple Building).  The concert is sponsored by the DCC Student Government Association. Jason Dorsey Presentations Rescheduled

Jason Dorsey, the nationally acclaimed youth motivational speaker whose appearance here in January was postponed because of inclement weather, has now been re-scheduled and will be meeting with students at two area schools on Tuesday, March 11. Dorsey, the 24-year old author of “Graduate to your Perfect Job”, will make two area presentations -- at 10:30 a.m. at Halifax County High School, and at 1:00 p.m. at George Washington High School in Danville. Rapid Prototype Facility Open House

Danville Community College's Regional Center for Applied Technology and Training (RCATT) will unveil its new rapid prototyping facility on Monday, March 17, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Dan River Business Development Center in Ringgold. The facility will enable businesses to quickly and affordably expand product lines and develop new parts. Equipment and product demonstration will be held throughout the day. The Annual Career Fair will be held Wednesday, March 19, from 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., at Danville Community Market. Disney Keys to Excellence

Disney Institute is bringing its renowned professional development program to the Danville, Virginia area on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at the Stratford Inn Conference Center.  Sponsored locally by the Danville Community College Educational Foundation, the full-day program, beginning with registration at 7:30 a.m., will give local business professionals the chance to discover the business behind the magic that Walt Disney World Resort has created for millions of guests from around the world for more than 30 years. 4th Annual DCC/Tech Prep Student Challenge - April 26

The Fourth Annual DCC Tech Prep Student Challenge Race at Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway will be held Saturday, April 26 at 6:30 p.m.  This event includes 5 go-kart races, one involving local educators including the superintendents and DCC President Dr. Carlyle Ramsey. The other four races will involve students from the six local public high schools.  We invite everyone to come out and support this event.  Regular Admission Price $10 per person.  Students (Elementary, Middle, High School and College) will be admitted for $2.50 per person.

17th Annual Alliance for Excellence Academic Awards Program - May 15, 2003 -- DCC will recognize 97 high school and 11 Danville Community College students for academic excellence at the 17th Annual Alliance For Excellence Academic Excellence Awards program, 7:00 p.m., at the Cherrystone Baptist Association Center, Tom Fork Road, in Ringgold, VA. DCC Sets Kids Exploration Camps - July 14 - August 1 (3 Sessions)

Practical Nursing Reunion 2003 Dinner and Pinning Ceremony - July 25 at the Stratford Inn Conference Center in Danville

 Join us for a reunion of practical nursing program graduates of Danville Community College and its predecessor, Danville Technical Institute on Friday, July 25, at Stratford Inn Conference Center in Danville. The reunion dinner begins at 5:00 p.m., followed by the pinning ceremony for the college's latest graduates -- the Class of 2003.  For decades, DCC has training many of the area's licensed practical nurses. Since 1967 alone (when DCC became part of the Virginia Community College System, there have been more than 1,000 graduates. We need your help in finding our graduates to invite them to this reunion.
