Guest Speaker Proposes Using Perceived Weaknesses as Strengths

(February 27, 2018)  – Motivational speaker Nicole Conaway poses with Danville Community College’s student success coaches after delivering an impassioned presentation in Oliver Hall on Tuesday, February 27, which posed an unusual solution for facing life’s problems: “Transform your roadblocks and use them as stepping stones.” During the presentation, which is part of Conaway’s Learn, Live, Love to Be Different (L2BD) Tour, she asked the audience to write down their biggest obstacles to achievement on yellow pieces of paper. Conaway then read the obstacles aloud, which included body issues, laziness, challenges associated with living in a broken home, worries about raising children properly, sadness, and fear. “This unifies us,” she said. “Whenever you encounter these obstacles, now you know you are not alone.” Conaway encouraged the crowd to identify and remove negative figures from their lives: “If you are not surrounded by people who help build you up, then you need to cut ties from the people who bring you down and don’t want to see you succeed,” she urged.
