VCCS CHANCELLOR TO SPEAK

AT DCC’S GRADUATION

DANVILLE, VA, May 1, 2003 -- Dr. Glenn DuBois, Chancellor of the Virginia Community College System, will be the speaker at Danville Community College’s Commencement, May 16, at 7:00 p.m., on the grounds near the Hill Building. All fall and spring graduates, and students who will complete their studies this summer will participate. Associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates will be awarded to more than 430 graduates of DCC programs. In addition, scholarship recipients who are continuing their education at four-year institutions will be recognized during the ceremony.

DuBois became the VCCS Chancellor in July 2001 after a nationwide search by the State Board for Community Colleges. As chancellor, he acts as the chief executive officer of a 23-college, 40-campus system of comprehensive community colleges located throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. He previously held the position of Commissioner and CEO of the New Hampshire Community Technical College System, with seven campuses; and was Director of Community Colleges for the State University of New York, one of the nation’s largest networks of community colleges.

Considered an expert on the dynamics of community college teaching, DuBois received his doctorate in higher education administration, research and policy from the University of Massachusetts. He holds a master’s degree in juvenile justice and criminology from Eastern Kentucky University; a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Florida Atlantic University; and an associate of science degree in police science from the State University of New York in Farmingdale.
