FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Staff Contacts: Director of Public Relations Public Relations & Marketing Assistant STUDENT SUCCESS SPOTLIGHT - February 2006
Angel Guy of Danville is a student in the Administrative Support Technology Program-General Office Specialization. The daughter of Jacqueline Guy and James Robertson, she is a graduate of George Washington High School. Upon graduation from DCC in May, she plans to transfer to Averett University and major in Business Administration. Active on the campus, Guy serves as treasurer for the DCC Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals; secretary of the Afro-American Culture Club; and a student worker in the DCC Admissions Office. Guy also was named to the DCC Vice President’s Honors List for the fall semester. In her community, she remains active by serving as secretary of the hospitality committee and secretary of the Sunday school at Rehoboth Apostolic Church in Danville. Through her work with campus organizations, she has been involved with various community projects. Her instructors are impressed by her deep desire to learn. “Angel is an innovator,” Frances Carter, DCC Assistant Professor of Administrative Support Technology, said in describing Guy. “She is a student who likes to venture out and go beyond the classroom setting. She has attended several leadership conferences and I know she enjoys helping others.” Guy says she chose DCC because she wanted to stay close to home and save money. “I wanted to stay in Danville until I felt comfortable in moving away from home. At the same time I wanted to further my education,” says Guy who noted that the Administrative Support Technology program will provide the skills she needs to be successful in a business career. DCC’s Administrative Support Technology program offers an Associate in Applied Science Degree in three specializations: general office, legal, or medical office. The program is designed to provide training for students who plan to enter the field or advance in an office support career. Possible employment opportunities for program graduates include administrative assistant, executive secretary, legal secretary/paralegal, medical secretary, medical transcriptionist, medical insurance coder or office manager. “I would encourage others to attend DCC because you can take similar classes to those in the first two years at a university without having to pay as much,” says Guy. “To me, the best thing about DCC is that the smaller classroom sizes allow you to communicate better with your instructors. I am blessed that DCC has great instructors who motivate you and who are willing to help.” For more information about the Administrative Support Technology program contact the Division of Business and Engineering Technology at 434-797-8474.
