Melanie Kirby-Paschal

Melanie Kirby-Paschal, a resident of Danville, is pursuing an Associate of Arts and Sciences Degree in Liberal Arts. She expects to complete her degree in Spring 2006 and then pursue another associate degree in business.

“Even though my education and life goals continue to change, my first (associate) degree from DCC will serve me well in any career choice,” she said. “The best thing about DCC is the willingness of the college staff and faculty to help students succeed, and I intend to continue at DCC when I pursue my second (associate) degree.”

Kirby-Paschal serves as the president of the DCC chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for community college students. She has been active in organizing college activities such as the Tsunami Relief Project with the Danville Fire Department and the Child Fingerprinting Program with the Danville Police Department. In addition, Kirby-Paschal is a student worker in the Office of the President at DCC and she works part-time at Bumpa’s Deli.

“I would assuredly encourage others to attend DCC,” she said. “The faculty and staff welcome all students with open arms. They have helped me open doors and find opportunities I know I would not have had the advantage of finding in a larger college environment.”
