Cynthia Haley is enrolled in the Early Childhood Development program and plans to graduate in May with an Associate in Applied Science degree.

The long-time resident of Pittsylvania County recently moved to Reidsville, NC. Haley is a former employee of VF Playwear, and when the company reduced its workforce, she was forced to consider a new career. She decided to continue her education at Danville Community College.

“DCC gave me the opportunity to take advantage of the Trade Act (benefits from the North America Free Trade Act) and move into a career field I am interested in,” Haley said. “I recommend that anyone who finds themselves in my type of situation to investigate what DCC has to offer.”

Despite not having any children of her own, Haley says she chose the Early Childhood Development program because she enjoys interacting with children. She says she is eager to explore a career with a school system or child care center.

“DCC offered me a pleasant environment with helpful teachers to reeducate myself,” she said. “It’s comfortable going to class with other people who understand why I’m here.”
