Vicky C. Shively

Vicky C. Shively, a native of Axton, is enrolled in the Practical Nursing program, and will complete her studies for a Certificate this summer. She plans to continue in the nursing field by enrolling in the Registered Nursing program at Danville Regional Medical Center. Shively is the daughter of Doris Tate and Carl Shively.

She serves as secretary of her practical nursing class and volunteers at the Danville Free Clinic. Shively decided at the age of 41 to quit her textile job and pursue a career in nursing.

“I realized that every job was beginning to require a college education and I didn’t want to be left out,” she says.

Shively adds she constantly directs other students and adults to DCC.

“I feel that education is important; not just for job opportunities,” she says. “It also allows a person’s mind to grow and see the world from a different perspective that only education will allow.”
