FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Staff Contact: Administrative Assistant to the President for Public Relations & Minority Concerns STUDENT
SPOTLIGHT - April 2003
Simon M. Stevens is enrolled in the Science/College Transfer curriculum and will graduate in May 2003. After graduation, he plans to continue his education at Mary Washington College and major in Science with a specialization in Microbiology. The son of Thomas and Julia Stevens, he is a graduate of Halifax County High School. I chose DCC because it was the most logical choice for my age and situation, he says. It is close to home and DCC has all of the classes that I needed at very affordable prices. While at DCC, Stevens serves as the president of the Japanese Club; tutor for Math, Science and Japanese; and a volunteer in the Learning Resources Center. Stevens also is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges. Stevens
says he definitely encourages others to attend DCC. It can be a method of slow transition from high school to college, he says. I think a lot of students become bewildered after leaving high school to enter college because they have no idea of what to expect. DCC can show these students that passing classes and earning a degree is now your responsibility. For more information,
