PIPPIN RECEIVES DCC OUTSTANDING ADJUNCT FACULTY AWARD
DANVILLE, VA, September 9, 2003 – Donald Pippin, part-time Developmental Mathematics Instructor at Danville Community College, recently received the Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Member Award for 2003. Pippin, who has taught for 24 years, was recognized for his job performance; positive student evaluations; special contributions of time, effort, and creativity to student learning; exemplary human relations skills; community involvement; and participation in professional development activities. Any full-time or part-time DCC employee or student may make nominations for the Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Member Award. Pippin receives a plaque and a monetary gift from the DCC Educational Foundation as part of the award. A native of Gretna, Pippin is a graduate of Gretna High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Health and Physical Education from Lynchburg College, and he is certified to teach high school and middle school math, gifted education classes, driver’s education, and health. Pippin also obtained 15 credit hours in math and computers from the University of Virginia and Longwood University. Prior to coming to DCC, Pippin was as an educator in Campbell, Amherst, Bedford, and Pittsylvania Counties. He also currently works part-time at the Danville Public Schools Adult Continuing Education Center and volunteers with Hope Harbor. At DCC, he is involved with the Student Government Association, the Deaf Club, and he serves as a tutor. He received the Governor’s School Teacher of Excellence Award in Amherst and Campbell Counties, and was named to Who’s Who Among High School Teachers. Pippin believes his relationship with students is enhanced by his enthusiasm, patience and his willingness to put quality time into his work. He has a simple philosophy for success. “I make time for any student who wants to learn,” Pippin says.
