
Kristi Page Barber |
Kristi Page Barber, a resident of Danville, has been named
Institutional Research Assistant in the Office of Planning,
Effectiveness & Research. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Industrial Technology from Old Dominion University. She is also a
1999 DCC graduate, receiving an Associate in Applied Science
Degree in Information Systems Technology – Networking
Specialization.
Barber has worked as an administrative and office assistant for
ODU TeleTECHNET program, and as a student worker in the Student
Development Office at DCC. She has also been employed at
O’Sullivan Industries.

Lisa A. Bowen |
Lisa A. Bowen, a resident of Dry
Fork, has been named the Lead Site Manager/Career Development
Specialist for the Virginia Workforce Center's Danville Office.
Bowen is familiar with DCC, as she has served previously as a site
manager and administrative assistant for the Virginia
Workforce Center and as an Administrative and Office Specialist I
for the Apprenticeship program. She is a graduate of Radford
University, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in
psychology with an emphasis on child psychology and gender
studies. |

Phoebe L. Bruce |
Phoebe L. Bruce of Greensboro is joining DCC as the Public
Relations Assistant in the Public Relations Office. She received a
Bachelor of Arts & Science Degree in Mass Communication (Public
Relations) from North Carolina A&T State University in May 2003.
Previously, she worked as a free-lance writer with the Carolina
Peacemaker and as a communication specialist at a public relations
firm in High Point and a health and beauty aids business in
Greensboro. She also was a communications intern for the Guilford
County Schools.

Dr. Mukesh K. Chhajer
|
Dr. Mukesh K. Chhajer joins DCC as Assistant Professor of Physics
and Mathematics. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Chemical Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology & Science
in Pilani, India; a Master of Science Degree in Chemical
Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras,
India; a Master of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from the
University of Cincinnati; and Ph.D. in Polymer Science from the
University of Akron.
Prior to joining DCC, he was an instructor at ECPI College of
Technology in Raleigh, NC, and a post-doctoral research associate
at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also taught
physics at the University of Akron, and was a graduate assistant
at the University of Cincinnati and the University of Akron.
Chhajer has earned numerous awards and given presentations at the
University of Toledo and the University of Akron. He has research
experience and is the author of many scholarly articles. Chhajer
is a member of the American Physical Society, American Chemical
Society, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Pi Mu Epsilon
Mathematics Honorary Society. |

Bonnie W. Cooley
|
Bonnie W. Cooley, a native of Danville, has been named Instructor
of Practical Nursing. Her academic history includes a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Nursing from Old Dominion University and a
Master of Science Degree in Maternal Child Nursing from Vanderbilt
University, as well as a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the
University of Tennessee.
Her past work experience includes Nursing Instructor and
registered nurse at Danville Regional Medical Center’s School of
Nursing, Director of Risk Management at Southside Regional Medical
Center in Petersburg; Review Specialist at Chesapeake General
Hospital; Nurse Coordinator at Vanderbilt University Medical
Center; and an instructor at East Tennessee State University.
Cooley also was in private law practice in Johnson City, Tenn.,
and served as president of the Washington County Bar Association. |

Jacqueline M. Dix |
Jacqueline M. Dix, a graduate of Danville Community College, has
been named Tech Prep/Career Placement Assistant in the Office of
Career Placement and Southern Piedmont Tech Prep Consortium. She
received her Associate in Applied Science Degree in Administrative
Support Technology- Medical Office Specialization in May 2005.
Previously, she was employed in production at VF Playwear. More
recently she held temporary positions as a Tax Relief Specialist
at the Senior Citizens Center and teller in the City of Danville
Treasurer’s Office.

Mary M. Dumont |
Mary M. Dumont of Danville has been named an Instructor for the
Middle College at DCC. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in
Business Administration from Belmont Abbey College in Belmont,
NC. She previously was a Special Services Teacher at Westwood
Middle School, a Department/Training Manager at C.M. Offray;
and an Operations Manager at Goodwill Industries. She also has served as
a
quality control and purchasing manager at two Greensboro
businesses.

David W. Foster |
David W. Foster is one of two Career Coaches hired for the
Pittsylvania County Public Schools. He has been assigned to work
with Chatham and Tunstall High Schools. He received a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Biology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and
State University; a Master of Science Degree in Secondary
Administration and Supervision from Radford University; and
pursued post graduate work at Lynchburg College. Foster has had a
long career in education. He previously served as principal at Dan
River High School and Bartlett Yancey High School; Assistant
Superintendent of Human Resources for the Pittsylvania County
Schools; Assistant Principal at Dan River High and Blairs Middle
Schools; teacher of biology, health, physical education, and
driver education at Dan River High School. |

Rosanne L. Goble |
Rosanne L. Goble has been named Instructor of Biology. She is a
community college graduate, having received an Associate of Arts
Degree from Southeastern Community College in Burlington, Iowa.
She also received a Bachelor of Science Degree and Master of
Science Degree in Biological Sciences from Western Illinois
University. Prior to coming to DCC, she was employed as a biology
instructor at Southeastern Community College and Carl Sandburg
Community College in Carthage, IL, and a graduate assistant in the
Department of Biological Sciences at Western Illinois University.
She is a member of the National Association of Biology Instructors
and the National Science Teachers Association. |

Sabryna A. Hamilton |
Sabryna A. Hamilton is one of two Career Coaches serving the
Pittsylvania County Public Schools. She is assigned to Gretna and
Dan River High Schools. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in
Political Science/Pre-Law concentration from North Carolina A&T
State University and a Master of Liberal Arts Degree from the
Johns Hopkins University. She also holds certification as a legal
assistant from the Georgetown University program and a certificate
from the History Summer School through an exchange program with
Johns Hopkins University and the University of Cambridge
(England).
She previously was an Instructor and Faculty Advising Coordinator
with Mid South Community College in West Memphis, AR; Director of
Enrollment Services at Lane College (Jackson, TN); Senior Legal
Assistant with the Rouse Company in Columbia, MD; and a legal
assistant with the U.S. Railway Association and Howrey & Simon,
both in Washington, DC. She has written several articles and been
involved with historical research about Burke County, NC.

Lauren S. Horne |
Lauren S. Horne has been hired as the Test Proctor in the Student
Development Office. She received an Associate in Arts and Sciences
Degree in Liberal Arts – Social Science Specialization from
Danville Community College in 2003. She also received a Bachelor
of Science Degree in Sociology from Averett University. Prior to
coming to DCC, she worked as the assistant manager for a women’s
fitness center and as an office assistant for an insurance
company. |

Christie S. Lutz |
Christie S. Lutz, a native of Blairs, has been named the
Administrative & Office Specialist III with DCC’s Middle College.
She received her Associate in Applied Science Degree in
Administrative Support Technology from Danville Community College
in 2004. She was employed part-time as the administrative
assistant with the Middle College, as well as a student worker
with the Career Placement/Tech Prep Office. She also was employed
by VF Playwear for 26 years until the plant closed. |

Mary W. Motley |
Mary W. Motley joins the DCC faculty as Instructor of
Developmental Mathematics. She received an Associate in Arts and
Science Degree in Business Administration from Danville Community
College in 1989; a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics and a
Masters of Education Degree with a concentration in Mathematics,
both from Averett College. Previously, she worked as a Lead
Mathematics Teacher at Gretna High School and adjunct mathematics
instructor at Central Virginia Community College. She also worked
as a Master Academic Teacher at Hughes Memorial Home. |

Donald R. Pippin |
Donald R. Pippin has been named Senior Mentor Supervisor with
DCC’s Title III program. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Health and Physical Education from Lynchburg College. Pippin is no
stranger to DCC, as he was an adjunct faculty member and math and
computer literacy tutor in the development math area. He also
taught math in Danville’s Adult Education program, Campbell
County, Bedford County, Amherst County, and Pittsylvania County
Public Schools. In 2002 he was named Outstanding Adjunct
Instructor at DCC. |

Pat McDowell |
Patsy (Pat) McDowell has been named Fiscal Technician in the
Danville Office of the Virginia Workforce Centers. Her
responsibilities include processing accounting transactions and
communicating financial information on a monthly basis. Pat comes
to DCC after working in the Customer Contact Center at the
Altavista office of the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.
Previously, she was employed as a bookkeeper for the
Danville-Pittsylvania Community Services Board. Pat is a graduate
of DCC, receiving her Associate in Applied Science Degree in
Accounting in 1979. |

Joseph Glenn Shelton |
Joseph Glenn Shelton has been hired as Instructor of Mathematics.
He received an associate degree from Ferrum Junior College; a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from Lynchburg College;
and a Master of Arts in Teaching (Mathematics) Degree from the
University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. He has attended
several National Science Foundation Summer Institutes for High
School and College Teachers.
Prior to joining DCC, he taught mathematics at Hargrave Military
Academy for 27 years. He also taught math at Chatham Hall,
Stratford College, Virginia Tech, Ferrum Junior College and at
Brosville High, Dan River High, and Gretna Junior and Senior High Schools. He is a member the National Council of
Mathematics Teachers. |

Wanda B. Whitlow |
Wanda B. Whitlow joins DCC as Site Manager/Career Development for
Virginia’s Workforce Center in Patrick County. She holds an
associate degree in Education from Patrick Henry Community College
and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Mary Baldwin College. She
previously worked as an SOS Caseworker at Patrick County High
School, as a pre-kindergarten teacher at Stanleytown Baptist
Academy, and at VF Knitwear in Bassett. |
