JOLANE DUNLAP RECOGNIZED AS OUTSTANDING PROFESSIONAL
DANVILLE, VA, December 11, 2002—JoLane Tilley Dunlap was honored recently as an Outstanding Professional for a Two-Year Institution by the Virginia Association of Student Personnel Administrators (VASPA). Each year, the organization recognizes an outstanding professional from four-year and two-year colleges. The award originated 25 years ago as a way to honor outstanding service in the field of student personnel at the state level. The award recognizes individuals who have contributed to both their institution and to the field of student personnel in a significant way. “JoLane was selected from a pool of nominees at all the state community colleges,” Peter Castiglione, Director of Student Development and Enrollment Management. “She works with the Student Government Association and with returning Trade Act students at DCC. Her work here at DCC, plus her work on the VASPA Board were major reasons for her receiving this award,” Castiglione said. Dunlap joined the DCC staff in 1999 as Coordinator of Career Development and Placement. Two years later, she was named a Counselor for the College. Dunlap says the award is a special honor for her. She notes counseling and help from college and school personnel enabled her to complete her education. “I was so happy to represent Danville Community College because when I dropped out of high school and did not believe in myself, it was someone at DCC who believed in me,” she says. “At DCC, I was given the opportunity to reach and then exceed my educational goals.” Dunlap completed her GED, and received an Associate in Arts and Science Degree in Liberal Arts from DCC. She later earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Averett University and her Master’s Degree in Education and Counseling from Lynchburg College. Prior to coming to DCC, she worked as a counselor for the Danville Public Schools. She is married to Dr. Christopher Dunlap, and has one son, Jared Moschler. For more
