RUG FOR DCC LIBRARY DISPLAY

            The Chatham/Danville Rug Hookers recently donated a large, decorative rug to the Danville Community College Library. The rug, entitled “The Dan River Region in Wool”, is currently on display in the library. The display features area landmarks and events significant to the history and culture of the Dan River region. Mary Gail Easley, DCC Librarian, says the historical inspiration came from a class she had taken taught by Kinney Rorrer, DCC Professor of History. Easley pitched the idea to the hooking group and the ladies did the rest. Hazel Crider says the group met periodically over the past year and a half to complete the project. A lot of their ideas and materials came from Jeanette Szatkowski of Statesville, NC, the owner of Harry M. Frazier Co. The college purchased the materials using funds from the Landon E. and Miriam Fuller Trust. The rug’s unveiling and a reception for the rug hookers, was held recently at DCC.
