FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Staff Contact: Director of Public Relations & Minority Concerns ENTREPRENEURIAL CONFERENCE SET FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
DANVILLE, VA, Nov. 7, 2005 -- The Fourth Annual High School Entrepreneurship Conference, sponsored by Danville Community College and the DCC chapter of the Collegiate Entrepreneurial Organization (CEO), will be held Friday, Nov.11, from 10:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., at the Danville Community Market. James Amps III, author and talk show host, will be the speaker. Amps is a nationally-recognized personal accountability speaker and the author of the book, “Speaking to Excel,” which explores the art of effective communications. Amps also hosts the nationally-syndicated radio program, “Motivational Moments”. A highlight of the day-long event will be an elevator-pitching competition, which allows students three minutes to pitch a business idea in an impromptu meeting with a well-known businessman. The presentations will be judged on feasibility of the project, style and ability to express key ideas within the allotted time frame. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third places. The grand prize includes an all-expense paid trip to the National Young Entrepreneurship Conference in Milwaukee, WI in April 2006. Amps is President/CEO of James Amps International and is one of the top motivational speakers in the country. He has spoken to over 500 corporate and professional audiences, representing in excess of 900,000 people around the world. His presentations are renowned for helping people shake off mediocrity and live up to their full potential. Drawing from his own experience of eighteen years of corporate and sales leadership, and building on his lifetime of adventure and entrepreneurship, Amps uses his unique life story to inspire individuals to take responsibility for their lives and replace blame and finger pointing with accountable thinking and action. “This is part of our continuing efforts at DCC to make area youth more aware of the opportunities available to those who wish to own a business one day,” says Vince Decker, Assistant Professor of Business Management, and the conference coordinator. For more information about the conference, please contact Vince Decker at 434-797-8470 or Lester Hall, Instructor of Accounting, at 434-797-8483.
