DANVILLE, VA, Oct. 11, 2005 – Danville Community College won the Gold Medallion of Excellence (first place) in the District 2, National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) Medallion Awards Competition held recently in Charlotte, NC. The award was for "Best Video Spot",  a 30-second television commercial entitled “Fast Food Mayhem”. The ad was produced by Adam Franklin, former part-time staff member in the Public Relations Office, and features the acting debut of local resident Ishmael LaBiosa.

The NCMPR is a council of the American Association of Community Colleges. District 2 is the largest NCMPR district and includes community colleges in 11 states of the Southeast. The video, one of two produced by Franklin, will now be entered in the national competition.
Also, at the Virginia Community Colleges Association annual meeting held recently in Roanoke, the Public Relations Office was recognized with an Honorable Mention award in the category of "News Writing." Andrea Burney, APR and Director of Public Relations, accepted both awards on behalf of the college. The competition featured entries from Virginia’s 23 community colleges.
