K.J. James, formerly known as Dr. Blue, grew up in the Piedmont
Community in South Carolina. He
is a gifted singer/songwriter and guitarist.
For the fatherless boy of 12, who worked construction all year to
support his family, the blues became more than a passing interest, but a
way of life. Covering the entire spectrum of blues styling, James’ slide guitar is a favorite of his fans. James is a national recording artist. His two recent releases, “A Doctor Blue Injection,” and “Salt City Blues,” received rave reviews throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Because of his talent and uniqueness, he is a five-time regional showcase selection recipient. He received four consecutive Campus Entertainer Of The Year nominations, and seven NACA regional Showcase appearances. James’ repertoire is estimated at over 500 songs. His best-known song, “Doc’s Band,” demonstrates the sophistication of his harmony, dexterity and genuine sense of humor. An engaging and dynamic performer, James is recognized and respected by such blues greats as John Lee Hooker and John Hammond. For
