DCC WELCOMES ITS NEWEST FACULTY AND STAFF - January
2005

David Bonebright has been named Associate Professor of
Marketing/Business Management. He comes to DCC from Statesboro, GA,
where he was Associate to the Dean in the College of Information
Technology at Georgia Southern University. Bonebright holds a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the
University of Nebraska with emphasis in marketing and economics and
an MBA from Georgia Southern University. He also is a graduate of
The Academy of Food Marketing at St. Josephs University in
Philadelphia.
Bonebright was previously
employed as General Manager, Director of Advertising and Sales for
the Southeast Region, Corporate Advertising Manager and Division
Advertising and Sales Promotion Manager at Nash Finch Company, one
of the leading food retail and distribution companies in the United
States. His career history includes more than a dozen advertising
honors and career accomplishments. In addition, he is involved in
several professional and civic organizations. |

Lisa Abbott Bowen, a resident of Dry Fork, has been
named the Site Manager/Career Development Specialist Danville Office
for the Virginia Workforce Centers (One Stop). Bowen is familiar
with DCC, as she has served previously as the administrative
assistant for the One-Stop Center and as an Administrative and Office
Specialist I for the Apprenticeship program. She is a graduate of
Radford University where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in
psychology with an emphasis on child psychology and gender studies. |

Florence Coleman of Alton, who previously has served
as an adjunct faculty member, has now been named Instructor of
Developmental English. She also has been employed by the Danville
Public School System where she taught fourth grade, and the
Martinsville City and Henrico County School Systems, where she taught
grades two and three and four and five respectively. Coleman holds a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from St. Paul's
College and a Master of Science Degree in education with a reading
specialization from Averett University. |

Carmen Eichman, a native of Kansas, has been named an
Instructor of English. She comes to DCC from Cloud County Community
College where she taught English Composition I. She holds a Bachelor
of Science Degree in pre-law/human development and family studies
and a Master of Arts degree in English from Kansas State University.
Eichman has developed social and political commentaries and book
reviews for the Manhattan Mercury editorial pages. She has completed
three novels, including When The Ugly Comes, published by Xlibris
Publishers. Most recently she was nominated for an Excellence in
Faculty Teaching Award by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. |

Billie Jean Hines, a resident of Ridgeway, has been
named to the part-time position -- GED Instructor for the Middle
College program. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human
Services Counseling from Old Dominion University. She also has an
Associate Degree in General Studies from Patrick Henry Community
College and another associate degree from the College of Health
Sciences. Her work experience includes serving as an adjunct faculty
member in the math department and as a certified tutor/math lab
assistant, both at Patrick Henry Community College. Most recently she
worked as a lead teacher for the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast
Virginia. She is recognized as a Master's Level Certified Tutor by the
College Reading and Learning Association. |

Dr. Theodore "Ted" Maier, a native of New York, has
been named Associate Professor of English. He holds a Ph.D. in
American Literature from Miami University of Ohio and bachelors and
masters degrees in English (British and American Literature) from
the State University of New York at Brockport. Maier's dissertation
focused on Interstices and Intersection: A Brief History of
Translation with Emphasis on Spanish-language and Modern American
Poetry. Maier’s academic background includes more than
a dozen awards, honors and fellowships and previous teaching
experience at Clovis Community College (NM), St. Andrews College (SC),
and the University of the Ozarks (AR). Most recently he was a visiting
Assistant Professor of English at Finger Lakes Community College in
Canandaigua, NY. He has a collection of published poetry and other
essays. |

Kathleen
Morrison, a native of Pulaski, has been employed as the
Educational Psychologist with the new Title III grant program. She
comes to DCC from Roanoke where she was an adjunct faculty member
with the College of Health Sciences. She also previously worked as
Morrison will be developing placement instruments for the modular
curriculum and assessing the learning styles of students in the
curriculum.
Morrison also was
previously employed as a Victims Advocate with the Women's Center at
Virginia Tech; a Counselor for Orientation and Student Activities at
Wytheville Community College; graduate assistant for Student
Development at Radford; and a courtroom assistant in Roanoke's
Commonwealth Attorneys Office. She received her bachelors degree in
psychology and her masters degree in counseling psychology with a
marriage and family specialization. She is pursuing her doctorate at
Capella University, and expects to complete her studies later this
year. |

Connie
Richie, a Danville native and DCC alumnus, has been named
Administrative and Office Specialist III, working with the Title III
grant. Prior to coming to DCC, Ritchie was employed at Dan River
Inc. where she worked as a senior systems analyst for more than 20
years. She received an Associate in Applied Science degree in
computer data processing. She also earned her bachelor’s degree in
business administration from Averett University. |

LaChelle Stamps, a native of Danville, has been named
Career Development Specialist for the Virginia Workforce Centers
(One Stop). Stamps comes to DCC after working as a teacher assistant
at North Elementary School in Providence, NC. She is a cum laude
graduate of Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science Degree in
psychology. Stamps is a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist
Church and serves as the creator and program coordinator for the
female youth mentoring program. |

Martha Tucker, a resident of Ringgold and former DCC
adjunct faculty member, has been named Assistant Professor of Early
Childhood Education and Reading. Previously, she was Education
Manager for the Pittsylvania County Community Action Head Start
Program. In addition, she taught for 16 years in the Charlotte and
Pittsylvania County School Systems. Tucker received her
undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education from James Madison
University and her master’s degree in Elementary Curriculum and
Instruction from Longwood College. She volunteers her time in the
Pittsylvania County Literacy Program and is a former president of
the Heart of Virginia Association for the Education of Young
Children. |
