DCC KNIGHTS HONORED                                              

FOR VCCS CONFERENCE WIN

            DANVILLE, VA, May 20, 2002 -- The newest member of the Virginia Community College System Baseball Conference is its 2002 winner. The Danville Community College Knights  recently won the Conference title, achieved a 24-13 record and collected a number of honors and awards for its coach and team members. Danville Mayor John Hamlin recently presented a “Resolution of Appreciation” to the DCC Team, College President Dr. Carlyle Ramsey and members of the DCC Educational Foundation. The team was recognized for their hard work and success in bringing the championship trophy to the Danville-area.

Coach John Bailey was named “Coach of the Year” for the Virginia Community College Conference, while four team members, Brad Bailey, first base; Chris Stowe, utility; Brett Thomas, pitcher; and Allen Smith, pitcher, were named to the All-Conference First Team. Three other members – Adam Conner, catcher, Jan-Michael Henry, outfielder, and Brett Thomas, shortstop, were named to the All Conference Second Team. Joe Land, third base; Conrad Smith, outfielder; and Larry Smithers, outfielder, were named All-Conference Honorable Mentions. In addition, first baseman Brad Bailey was the only player in the VCCS Conference that ended up with a 400-plus batting average for the whole season.

Other teams in the VCCS Conference include Germanna Community College (Locust Grove), Rappahannock Community College (Glenns/Warsaw), Patrick Henry Community College (Martinsville), Southwest Virginia Community College (Richlands), New River Community College (Dublin), and Virginia Western Community College (Roanoke).
