INSTRUCTOR RECEIVES 2003 GOVERNOR’S TRANSPORTATION SAFETY AWARD
DANVILLE, VA, June 6, 2003 – Mark McFaddin, Coordinator and Instructor of the Motorcycle Rider Safety Program at Danville Community College, recently received the 2003 Governor’s Transportation Safety Award in the category of Motorcycle Safety. The award, presented at the 15th Annual Conference on Transportation Safety held in Charlottesville, recognizes outstanding individuals/organizations for their accomplishments in transportation safety. The training programs attract students from across the state and nation. The DCC motorcycle rider safety training programs are co-sponsored by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Virginia Rider Training Program. Classes, which are conducted on the weekends- Friday, Saturday and Sunday), include Basic Rider Courses, Experienced Rider Courses, and Sidecar/Trike courses. “My enjoyment for the art of motorcycling makes my teaching very easy. I really enjoy what I do ,” McFaddin says. He added that many Virginia residents enroll in the classes because successful completion of the course means they can exempt the actual motorcycle riding test when they obtain a motorcycle license from the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles).” The Sidecar/Trike program is also gaining in popularity. McFaddin says many persons like to ride with children or spouses, and the sidecar is a great way to carry them along. In addition, persons who are intimidated by motorcycles or have physical limitations that prevent them from holding up a two-wheeled motorcycle when stopped find the sidecar rigs beneficial. A variety of courses are being offered this summer at DCC. McFaddin says he is pleased by the great community response to these classes.
