DANVILLE, VA., May 20, 2003 – Virginia Community College System Chancellor Dr. Glenn DuBois gave the commencement address as more than 430 graduates received diplomas, certificates, and associate degrees at Danville Community College’s Commencement held recently. It was the college’s largest graduating class. Special recognition also was bestowed upon Danville Community College students during the ceremony. In addition, a DCC faculty member was honored as "Teacher of the Year" by the Student Government Association.

Vickie Holland Taylor, Assistant Professor of Sociology, was honored with the SGA's Teacher of the Year Award. Taylor was cited for her professionalism, dedication, concern for students, and work as a co-advisor for the award-winning Upsilon Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.

            Steven D. Morris, and Angela R. Andrepont, both of Danville, were recognized by President Dr. Carlyle Ramsey for their selection to the All-USA Academic Team, sponsored by USA Today, American Association of Community Colleges, and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Both are active members of the Upsilon Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at DCC, and Morris, who served as chapter president, was honored as one of 10 students named to the All Virginia First Team. Both Morris and Andrepont received Associate in Applied Science Degrees in Administration of Justice and Business Management, respectively.

             Kevin Poole of Halifax, who received a Diploma in Precision Machining Technology, was honored for winning first place state award in the precision machining category at the Vocational and Industrial Clubs of America skills competition. He will represent the state at the national competition in June.

            The certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees in more than 30 program areas were conferred upon graduates by Dr. B. Carlyle Ramsey, President, and Dr. Betty Jo Foster, Vice President for Academic and Student Services.
