DCC SETS THIRD ENTREPRENEURSHIP

CONFERENCE FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

DANVILLE, VA, Nov. 8, 2004—Danville Community College is sponsoring the third Entrepreneurship

Barry Moltz

Conference for high school students on November 19 at Danville Community Market. The conference will be held from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Approximately 250 high school juniors and seniors from Danville, Pittsylvania County and Halifax County are expected to attend the day-long event, including many who will participate in an elevator pitching competition. The competition allows students three minutes to pitch a business idea, as if having an impromptu meeting in an elevator with well-known businessman Donald Trump.

“This is part of our continuing effort to make area youth aware of the opportunities available to those who may one day wish to own a business,” said Dr. Edward T. White, Dean of the Business & Engineering Technologies Division.

The keynote speaker will be Barry Moltz, author of, You Need to be a Little Crazy: The Truth about Starting and Growing Your Business. Moltz also is a well-known entrepreneur, motivational speaker and venture capitalist. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Brandeis University and a master’s degree in business administration from Northwestern University.

For the elevator pitching competition, a panel of judges will choose the best three student teams, consisting of two to five students, on the basis of feasibility and presentation. First place winners, including the faculty sponsor, will receive an all expenses paid trip to The Institute for Entrepreneurship’s Annual Conference and Business Competition April 13-15 in Milwaukee. Second and third place winners will receive apparel and merchandise awards.
