DANVILLE, VA, April 1, 2003 -- Danville Community College begins
its 21st year of Celebration of the Arts, starting Monday,
April 7 and continuing through Friday, April 11. The entertainment line
up focuses on drama, art, dance, music, and literature.
The schedule is as follows: Monday,
April 7, 2003 8:00
a.m. ff (all week)
Exhibition of art works by members of the Danville Art League. Location:
Oliver Hall, Temple Building. 7:00 p.m. African Dances, Drumming and Storytelling. A ninety-minute-long, lively, and educational performance of aspects of African culture by Dancescape, featuring Donna Graham, Mohamed Dacosta, and Nguzu Saba. Tuesday,

“Fireside Virginia,” a
showcase of authentic traditions of Virginia which incorporate stories,
tongue-twisters, riddles, rhymes, songs, and sayings. Performed by
mutlidiciplinarian Eve Watters of
Charlottesville, VA.. 7:00

The Red Hot Smoothies, an instrumental concert of jazz,
rhythm, and blues in a contemporary, swinging style. Presented by
Director Nick Page and four other musicians from Faber, VA. Wednesday,

"Public
Reception" to honor artists whose works are on display in
Oliver Hall. Thursday,

Two by Will a sixty-minute performance in which the playwright visits contemporary
audiences accompanied by his muse. Shakespeare and the muse explain his
works by illustrating points through the performance of excerpts from
several of his plays and poems. By encore! theatre company from
Richmond, VA. WRITER'S WORKSHOP
Constructive criticism and writing supervision offered to all
creative writers of poetry and prose from the community and Danville
Community College. The poetry aspects of the workshop is being conducted
by Carolyn Kreiter-Foronda, poet, painter, sculptor from Hardyville,
Virginia. The fiction/nonfiction aspects of the workshop will be
conducted by Janet Lembke, translator of the classics, poet, nature
enthusiast and creative nonfiction writer from Staunton, Va. Thursday,

How I Write, an informal discussion about the process of writing
poetry and prose by the workshop leaders, Carolyn Kreiter-Foronda and
Janet Lembke.
