DCC UNVEILS NEW ALUMNI WEB SITE!
DANVILLE, VA, February 5, 2008 — More than 12,000 emails recently were sent to alumni of Danville Community College and its
predecessor institutions – Danville Technical Institute and the Danville Branch of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. The emails announced the college’s newest initiative – the DCC Alumni Web Site!
Buddy Rawley, Director of Development, says the new web site can be accessed from the DCC home page (www.dcc.vccs.edu) , then click Alumni on the menu. He adds this is a first effort to reach the college’s 68,000 alumni. Any alumni who have passed at least one credit class may register on the site by entering a full name and providing a birth date. Within two weeks, Rawley says another 3,000-5,000 e-mails will be broadcast to additional alumni e-mail addresses.
“We have been seeking a way to better serve our alumni beyond the years they are on campus. This web site is the beginning of our efforts to provide alumni services and resources in numerous ways to enhance daily lives and provide expanded opportunities,” Rawley explains.
Through the web site’s initial offerings, alumni can seek career opportunities across the nation, as well as seek to connect with individuals they knew from their days as students.
“Career opportunities and eventually mentoring opportunities are only two of the many options the web site will offer alumni,” notes Marie Harris, Alumni Relations Representative. “The DCC Alumni Web Site offers access to hundreds of sites that are a part of its online Career Center which links with other colleges, universities and recruitment firms across the nation.”
The Career Center not only links to national sites but will also link to listings provided to the college by local employers. In addition to viewing job postings, alumni can post their resumes for employers accessing the site or can offer mentoring from their vocational experiences.
Beyond career opportunities, the site offers space for alumni to post personal, family, career information, pictures and to network with other alumni. Multiple contact methods are available for locating class members and friends.
“The web site is only the beginning of a full alumni operation where we bring alumni to campus to determine what their needs are and then seek to provide those needs whenever possible,” Rawley says. “We have recently begun meeting with alumni to fulfill these goals and we will continue to meet with them to organize a fully operational alumni association.”
In upcoming months, the DCC Alumni Web Site will offer alumni news, updates on campus activities and opportunities for alumni to help form programs that serve them personally and professionally.
