ANNUAL SPRING OPEN HOUSE SET APRIL 4

DANVILLE, VA, March 19, 2007 – Danville Community College will hold its annual Spring Open House on Wednesday, April 4. Most of the events will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

A highlight of the day-long event will be the Student Challenge: Micro Reality Stock Car Racing from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the ball field outside the EIT Building. The event will allow DCC students and high school students to test their motorsports skills and compete for several prizes on a state-of-the-art Micro Reality Stock Car Racing track. Other highlights include the Electrical-Electronics Department’s “shocking” open house, scheduled 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., and featuring demonstrations on topics such as: robotics, pneumatics, VISTA, Linux, hydraulics, programmable logic controls and wireless communications. In addition, lab tours will be available for air conditioning and refrigeration, automotive analysis and repair, auto body, computer-aided drafting and design, graphic imaging, precision machining technology, computer systems, science and administration of justice.

Additional activities on tap for prospective students include financial aid and college counseling and admissions information; discussion of transfer opportunities with four-year college and university representatives; and allied health information presented by practical nursing and dental hygiene students. Prospective students also can take a guided campus tour, complete a career assessment, visit the DCC bookstore, view DCC club displays and participate in student activities. Refreshments will be available for a nominal fee.

DCC is one of 23 colleges in the Virginia Community College System. The service area includes the City of Danville, Pittsylvania County, and Halifax County. The college awards associate degrees, diplomas and certificates in more than 40 programs of study.
