DANVILLE, VA, October 10, 2007 – All the information you ever wanted to know about college admissions and transfer will be the focus of two Danville Community College events  -- Transfer Day and Transfer Open House, on Tuesday, Oct. 23 in Oliver Hall. Both events are open to the public.

Transfer Day, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., will feature representatives from more than 20 colleges who will discuss the admissions process for students interested in transferring to four-year colleges. Topics covered include current articulation agreements between DCC and other colleges, available transfer options, admissions processes and deadlines, and individual discussions with transfer representatives.

Transfer Open House, held from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., will focus on DCC’s transfer programs and the tools available to assist students. In addition, DCC graduates who have successfully transferred to baccalaureate degree-granting institutions and representatives from transfer colleges and universities will also be on hand. High school juniors, seniors, and their parents are especially invited to attend the evening session.

“These events are excellent resources for high school juniors and seniors and others interested in transfer options at DCC and beyond,” says Cathy Pulliam, Assistant Coordinator of Recruitment and Enrollment Management. “

Pulliam noted that DCC has specific agreements with more than 20 colleges, while the Virginia Community College System has guaranteed agreements with about 25 schools. In addition, there are financial incentives to students attending DCC and then transferring to Virginia’s four-year institutions. For example, through the Virginia Transfer Grant students entering a Virginia community college will have an opportunity to receive up to $2,000 annually upon transferring to a four-year-institution in the state. In addition, DCC awards a number of scholarships to students each year who continue their education to earn a bachelor’s degree.

“There are many options available for students,” Pulliam adds. “I encourage all students and their parents to attend the transfer events and find out more information.”
