DCC TUTORING PROGRAM CERTIFIES MORE TUTORS

DANVILLE, VA, December 18, 2006 -- Fourteen individuals were recently certified as tutors through Danville Community College. DCC now has a Level I internationally-certified tutor training program that is certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). The CRLA provides a standard of skill sets and training needed for tutors.

The newly-certified tutors include: Wanda Amos, Isaac Booth, Tilly Gokbudak, Leigh Anne Keatts , Patricia McGhee, Mark Rand, Jessica Saunders, Natalie Sieg, Jeramie Stamps, Alan Taylor, and Joshua Thomasson.

In addition, three more professionals were certified as tutors for the Title III (Developmental Studies) program. They are: Gail Stillwell, Stephanie Mace, and Wen Maier. All Title III tutors are also CRLA certified and trained by Donald Pippin, Coordinator of Tutoring, and a National Tutoring Association certified trainer. The Title III tutors, all professionals with mathematics teaching experience, tutor 125 students each semester in the Title III lab.
