SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED TO 160 DCC STUDENTS

            DANVILLE, VA, October 4, 2006 – More than 160 students have been awarded scholarship awards through the Danville Community College (DCC) Educational Foundation, Inc., for the 2006-2007 academic school year. That number includes 53 recipients who received Tobacco Assistance Funds.

The Foundation is a tax-exempt, non-profit organization, which is composed of citizens, donors and alumni. The Tobacco Financial Assistance Program is funded by the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission.

Endowed awards and additional funds are annually distributed to incoming freshmen, sophomores and graduates of DCC, while the Tobacco Assistance Funds are awarded each semester.

“The Educational Foundation has been very blessed with people establishing endowments and yearly scholarships,” said Buddy Rawley, Director of Development at DCC. “Each year, hundreds of students are helped in meeting their goal of obtaining their education.”

With more than $80,000 in scholarship awards given to students for the 2006-2007 academic school year plus $65,000 in Tobacco Assistance Funds, a total of $148,026 has been awarded to DCC students.
