DCC PRACTICAL NURSING

PINNING CEREMONY HELD

DANVILLE, VA, May 23, 2006 -- Twenty-one Danville Community College practical nursing students

Danville Community College’s 2006 Practical Nursing class includes: first row, left to right,: Karen Goodson, Patricia Pritchett, Tina Robertson, Patricia Wilkerson, Alisha Williams, and Amanda Young; second row: Mandisa Anderson, Jessica Carrington, Corinna Greenfield, Susan Harris, Angela Langford, Gale Leavy, and Sandy McCune-Chitwood; third row: Mark Wolf McSherry, Tina Nicklow, Sharren Pope, Christie Poteat, Kimberly Tate, La-Mecca Thomas and Tabitha K.  were awarded their nursing pins in a ceremony held recently. In addition, the occasion marked the first graduates of DCC’s new degree program in Health Science, with an Associate in Applied Science with a Practical Nursing specialization.

DCC President Dr. Carlyle Ramsey, was the keynote speaker, with other remarks given by Dr. Chris Ezell, Vice President, Academic and Student Services, and Dr. Wade Davenport, Dean, Division of Arts and Sciences. In addition, special recognition awards were presented. They were: Tina Robertson of Dry Fork , recognized with the Academic Excellence Award; Sharren Pope, Keeling, was named All Around Improved Student;  Angela Langford, Blairs, Outstanding Clinical Performance Award; and Amanda Young, Ridgeway, Outstanding All-Around  Student Award.

            The 2006 graduating class includes the following students. (Note: Those names with an asterisk received an Associate in Applied Science Degree with a specialization in Practical Nursing. All others received a Certificate in Practical Nursing):
