DCC WELCOMES NEW EMPLOYEES

Chad Adams, a resident of Danville, has been named Public Relations and Marketing Specialist II. He recently earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism at Averett University, where he served as editor of Averett’s Ember magazine and co-editor of the Chanticleer News Magazine. He is the founder of the school’s Writers’ Folio Club and regularly tutored students needed writing assistance. Also, he has written numerous articles for three local publications: Evince, Borderline and Destination: Danville.

 

In his new position, Adams will write news releases, handle media inquiries, assist in video production and coordinate campus photography needs, among other related duties in the Public Relations Office.

 

“I am privileged and excited to be a part of DCC’s staff,” Adams says. “I’m looking forward to this exciting new venture and will do my best to ensure students receive timely information about DCC.”

Mary George, a resident of Danville, has been named Administrative and Office Specialist III in the Office of Planning, Effectiveness and Research. Previously, she was employed part-time at DCC since June, 2006, working in the Southern Piedmont Educational Opportunity Center and in the Office of Planning, Effectiveness and Research. . She recently received an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Administrative Support Technology – Medical Office Specialization.

 

Her current responsibilities include assisting with developing, administering, and compiling surveys; disseminating research data; maintaining institutional research databases; assisting with various institutional research initiatives and data collection and analysis.

 

“I like the employees at DCC,” says George. “I feel comfortable here. It’s a home away from home.”

Lisa Lee, a resident of Danville, has been named Administrative and Program Specialist III in the Workforce Services/Apprenticeship Office. She recently was employed for two years as a student worker in the Financial Aid Office. In December 2006, she will complete her Associate of Applied Science Degree in Administrative Support Technology - Legal Specialization.

 

“I love DCC; it’s my second home,” Lee says. “The staff is friendly and I am delighted to be a part of this College – to be able to put my administrative skills and education to use.”

Cathy Pulliam, a DCC alumnus has switched titles. She is now the Assistant Coordinator of Recruitment and Enrollment Management. A resident of South Boston, she has been employed at DCC for seven years, most recently was Education Support Specialist II. She earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Management - Automotive Management Specialization in 1998; a Certificate in Auto Body Mechanics in 1999; and an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Business Management - Marketing Specialization in 2001. Pullian earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology at Averett University in 2002 and is currently pursuing a Master of Science Degree in Education – Enrollment Management at Capella University.

 

Her responsibilities include coordinating the high school duel enrollment program, coordinating the recruitment program and assisting with student activities, award services and graduation.

 

“I am a three-time DCC alumna. DCC was a great experience for me as a student,” says Pulliam. “I want to help others have the great experiences that I had by attending DCC, which is why recruitment is so dear to my heart!”

Debra Smith, a Danville resident, has been named Instructor of Welding. She is a 1995 graduate of DCC’s Precision Machining Technology program and has been teaching welding courses part-time at DCC since her graduation. Smith has increased the number of students enrolled in welding classes and in 2001, she was recognized with the Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award.

 

Smith’s responsibilities include teaching all of the college’s welding classes, such as welding metallurgy, arc welding and inert gas welding. Her goals are to expand the welding program offerings by providing a one-year certificate program and increasing job placement opportunities for her students.

Jennifer Stevens of South Boston has been named Director of Tech Prep and Placement. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and a Master of Science Degree in Education, both from Longwood University.

 

Previously, she served as a Program Administrator at Virginia Tech, a Program Coordinator at Longwood University, and as a teacher for nine years with the Halifax County Public School System. In addition, Stevens is a member of Governor Timothy Kaine’s “Start Strong Council,” which examines strategies for increasing pre-kindergarten opportunities for four-year olds.

 

In her new position, Stevens will direct and manage collaborative efforts between consortium partners (DCC and Danville, Halifax County and Pittsylvania County Public Schools, parents, and local businesses/industries).
