FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Staff Contact: Director of Public Relations & Minority Concerns Public Relations & Marketing Specialist II DCC BOOKSTORE HAS NEW LOOK WITH RECENT RENOVATIONS
DANVILLE, VA, April 8, 2006 -- A surprising new “look” greets visitors to the Danville Community
College Bookstore. After a year’s worth of planning and construction, the College Bookstore has nearly doubled its merchandise with more than 1,500 square feet of space. The Bookstore is located in the Engineering and Industrial Technology (EIT) Building on the DCC campus. “It has a surprisingly new look,” explains Andre` Jordan, DCC Bookstore Manager. “This expansion allows us now to carry more products. We now can sell laptops, printers, digital cameras, speakers and I-pods.” Jordan adds that the Bookstore will continue to sell the staple products such as textbooks, college apparel, pens, pencils, and notebooks, but other electronic items have been on the wish list for many students. They now have their wishes granted.
Recently, more than 250 students attended the grand opening. Jordan even had special gifts for the first to arrive. One such guest was DCC student Michael Broadnax, who was impressed by the Bookstore’s transformation. “I think this is a nice change,” Broadnax says. “Usually, I buy a lot of my supplies here. Now the store seems to have more supplies that students can buy here, instead of buying at other places.” Broadnax added. According to Jordan, before the expansion the facility could only serve a few students at a time and he had to limit the supplies because of limited space. Now he’s able to carry a full line of paperback and hard bound books, as well as other course supplies. Jordan says not only are students happy with the transformation, but so are alumni and other community residents. “A lot of DCC alumni purchase hats and shirts and some others just come just to visit to see what we have to offer,” says Jordan. He explained that the bookstore also has expanded its line of clothing merchandise for males and females. What are some of the other more popular items, besides textbooks? Jordan says CD players, computer software and games, DCC emblem notebooks and binders, planners, calendars, and the clothing. The DCC bookstore staff is excited about the expansion and is proud of its new look. “This bookstore has very new technology merchandise available,” says Rebecca Parrish, Bookstore Cashier. “We are offering so much more now. Students are really interested in the items we have available; especially items, such as speakers, laptops and cameras.” The excitement also shows on Jordan, who has managed the Bookstore for nearly 10 years. A resident of Halifax County, he came to DCC in 1997, after working at Piedmont Community College in Roxboro, N.C. Jordan explains that he has a passion for working in the bookstore because he is providing materials needed to enhance student learning, DCC’s mission for student success. Jordan says he wants the Bookstore to serve not only as the only place for students, faculty and staff to shop for school and office supplies but for the DCC alumni, family and friends, as well. “We encourage everyone, and I mean everyone, to come out and experience the new DCC Bookstore. It has a new atmosphere that is inviting to all,” Jordan adds. For more information about the DCC Bookstore, contact Jordan at 434.797.8432, or toll free at 800.560.4291, ext. 8432.
