DCC ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

FOR NURSING PROGRAMS

            DANVILLE, VA February 9, 2006 -- The Practical Nursing program at Danville Community College is now accepting applications for fall semester 2006. DCC will host an information session about the DCC Nursing program on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 5:30 p.m., in Oliver Hall (Temple Building). Other sessions are planned throughout the service region of Danville, Halifax County, and Pittsylvania County.       The College offers both an Associate in Applied Science Degree and Certificate programs in practical nursing. Qualified applicants may be able to complete the requirements for graduation in as little as three semesters.  Program graduates are then eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN).

            Dr. Wade Davenport, Dean of the Arts and Sciences Division, said he is especially committed to achieving diversity in the workforce and encourages applications from both males and females in the region.

            “Nursing careers may appeal to men who want a fast-paced, hands-on career with cutting-edge technology and tremendous opportunity for advancement,” said Davenport who noted that there are few male practitioners in the growing field.  “Our highly qualified faculty works with students every step of the way to provide real-world clinical experiences.”

            No advance registration is required to attend the information session. Recruiters and faculty will be available to explain the college’s nursing curriculum and help applicants begin the application process. Light refreshments will be provided.
