FOUNDATION MAKES
SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
DANVILLE, VA, September 16,
2002 -- More than $161,000 was awarded by the Danville Community
College Educational Foundation for the 2002-2003 academic year,
including $80,000 in assistance to recipients impacted by shifts in
the tobacco industry.
Martha Walker, Executive Director, DCC Educational Foundation,
said the generous giving on the part of so many individuals and
businesses have made it possible for 183 DCC students to continue
their education.
“We are extremely grateful to
these individuals and businesses,” Walker said.
“Without their support, many worthy students would not be
able to realize their higher education goals.”
Walker added the funding for the
special assistance for tobacco-impacted families was made possible
through DCC’s share of the tobacco settlement.
This is the second year these funds have been available.
The college is one of seven community colleges in South Central
and Western Virginia to share in the funding.
