Mission

Danville Community College provides quality credit and non-credit comprehensive higher-education and workforce -training programs and services to promote individual, business, and community growth and development. Our open admissions policy, affordable cost, financial aid resources and flexible class schedules are some of the many reasons why students choose Danville Community College.

Type of College

Danville Community College, founded in 1967, is one of 23 public community colleges in Virginia, and is governed by the State Board for Community Colleges. The College serves the city of Danville and the counties of Pittsylvania and Halifax (total population 147,511). DCC is a two-year comprehensive community college offering certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees in more than 60 programs of study.

Did You Know?
  • There were more than 6,400 college students in the Danville Community College service region in 2002, and 55% of them attended DCC! (In Danville and Pittsylvania County 65% of all college students choose DCC).

  • The Carrington Child Development Center, operated by Families First, offers on campus child care services.

  • DCC's Center for Business, Industry, and Government provided training for 160 companies in 2000-2001, with more than 4,500 participants.

  • Elementary and high school students enrolled in the Information Technology Institute's After-School and Summer programs provided the first web telecast of the American Legion World Series. It attracted more than 1,000 internet viewers from throughout the world.

  • Since fall 2000, 1,475 employees from area businesses have been served by the Regional Center for Applied Technology and Training.

  • More than 65% of all Virginia undergraduates for 2002-2003 were enrolled in a community college.

  • 738 high school students from Danville, Halifax County, and Pittsylvania County enrolled in college-level courses at DCC during fall 2001.

Impact of Tobacco Settlement Dollars

173 students have been granted financial assistance awards totaling over $151,000 from December 2000 - January 2002.

Costs

Tuition and fees for Virginia students are $67.35 per credit (includes a $3.15 per credit Information Technology Fee and $0.50 per credit Student Activity Fee). In addition a $1 maintenance fee is collected for students taking 3 or more credit on the Danville campus. Tuition and fees for out-of-state students are $214.80 per credit, which includes the same fees as an in-state student plus a $1.50 per credit Capital Fee . 

A full-time Virginia student (12 credits per semester) pays approximately $1,800 for tuition and fees for two semesters.

Financial Aid

DCC students have access to a full range of grants, loans and scholarships. The Financial Aid Office helps students in applying for assistance. More than 1,458 students benefited from financial aid in 2002-2003, totaling more than $3.2 million. In addition, more than 132 scholarships, totaling over $72,515, has been awarded through the DCC Educational Foundation in 2003-2004.
