Halifax County Board of Supervisors Names Wimbish to DCC Board


(August 28, 2017)  – The Halifax County Board of Supervisors has named Carlyle Wimbish as the Halifax representative to the Danville Community College (DCC) Board.
Wimbish’s four-year term on the DCC board began July 1. He succeeds former board member and chair Valdivia Hall, whose term ended June 30.
Wimbish, who is retired from the North Carolina Community College System, was formerly the director of the Small Business Center at Piedmont Community College for Person and Caswell counties with offices in Roxboro, N.C., and Yanceyville, N.C. He also served as director of the Business Development Center in Roxboro, N.C. He has lived in Halifax County, just outside of South Boston, for more than 50 years.
Wimbish said he is most looking forward to seeing how DCC will impact economic development in the college’s service region of the City of Danville and counties of Pittsylvania and Halifax.
“It means a lot that the members of the Halifax County Board of Supervisors think I am well qualified to serve in this capacity,? he said.
Wimbish holds a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from Virginia Tech and is president of the Halifax County chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association and Hokie Club.
He has served two four-year terms on the board at Southside Virginia Community College and two three-year terms on the board of trustees at Hargrave Military Academy. He has also served on the board of directors of the Old Dominion Resource, Conservation, and Development Council and served as its chair for two separate two-year terms.
Wimbish is currently the president of the Halifax County/South Boston Sports Hall of Fame.
