Danville Community College celebrates "Week of the Young Child" every year in April

DCC Celebrates "Week of the Young Child"

(April 17, 2017)  – Danville Community College’s Week of the Young Child (WOYC) is an annual celebration of early childhood and a tribute to all those people in our community who teach, support, and nurture young children.

The DCC celebration and public awareness campaign is being held April 24 – April 29 on the campus of DCC. DCC students in the Early Childhood Education department are busy this week educating the community about the needs of our youngest population.

Throughout the week, children will participate in a variety of fun and exciting activities, coordinated by DCC students. To end the week, Families First Children’s Center will host a Trike-a-thon to raise money for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Please support us if you can. Triking is hard work! In addition, we will have a lemonade stand to raise money for St. Jude’s. To make a donation for this worthy cause, please contact Martha Tucker at 797-6434 or come for a Friday morning visit about 10:00 a.m.

In addition, the TEACH Club and Families First Staff will have an AUTISM Walk TEAM for the April 29th DAN RIVER AUTISM 5K. Email Martha Tucker at if you’d like to join our team!

So, please join us as we work to improve the lives of young children. Childhood is a time when children build the foundations for their futures. Some adults devote their entire lives to young children and some of us can only give a few minutes each day, but together we CAN make a difference. Read a book to a young child, talk to a young child or spend some time playing with a young child this week. Join us as we strive to build better futures for all children!
