DCC Davenport Scholars Recognized

(September 6, 2017)  – Danville Community College celebrated its first two cohorts of Davenport Institute scholars with a reception Tuesday evening. These dedicated students work, most of them full-time, at local child care centers during the day, then come to DCC for evening classes as they earn their career studies certificates in Early Childhood Education. The first cohort started in January and will finish in December, and the second cohort started this fall and will finish next summer.
A generous $1 million donation from Ben & Betty Davenport established the Davenport Institute for Early Childhood Development at DCC and three other community colleges, with scholarships and support to help child care teachers enhance their skills and better prepare young children for kindergarten and life.
