You Can Do Two Things At Once – Register Now For Summer, Fall Terms!

DANVILLE, VA, March 17, 2015 – New and returning Danville Community College students can now register for the Summer Sessions and at the same time get a head start on planning for fall semester. Registration for summer and fall classes starts April 1. Full and First Summer term classes begin May 26; Second Summer classes, June 25; and Fall Semester classes start August 24.

The early registration is part of DCC’s student-centered approach to higher education. The College offers options to suit a variety of student needs - whether it is planning for fall classes ahead of time and enjoying a stress-free summer or taking summer classes with the goal of graduating early.

“We wanted to try something new to help students determine their schedules well in advance of the semester,? says Dr. Christopher C. Ezell, Vice President of Academic and Student Services. “I think this will help students get a jump on planning for the fall semester. There’s a feeling of confidence when they have things set for the summer and fall.?

The College has plans to facilitate registration for high school students who are planning to attend in the fall semester. Ezell encourages students not only to register for classes early, but also to apply early for financial aid and scholarships. Two upcoming events have been planned to assist prospective students:
• March 31 - Spring Open House, 10 a.m. – 6:30 p.m., DCC Main Campus
• April 18 - “Meet the Faculty Day?, 10 a.m. – 12 noon, Student Center

In the summer there are two five-week sessions (First and Second Summer) and a full 10-week session. “You can get through your degree program more quickly,? adds Dr. Paul Fox, Dean of the Arts and Sciences Division. “Studies show people who take summer classes do tend to have a higher graduation rate.?

The full summer session is an ideal option for current college students interested in earning transfer credits or getting ahead in their studies.

“We have a wide variety of transfer courses – art, biology, chemistry, communications, math, economics, English, geography, history, humanities, mathematics, music appreciation, philosophy, psychology, religion, sociology and Spanish,? Fox explains. “We also have online courses. In addition, teachers who need points for recertification have a varied selection of courses from which to choose at DCC this summer.?

The second summer session offers the perfect opportunity for recent high school graduates to get a head start on their college experience. With Second Summer classes beginning June 25, high school graduates can begin their college experiences earlier. In addition, there are a number of one-credit course offerings available for professional development.

The summer and fall term class schedules are available online at Look for the blue “Class Schedule? tab on the homepage. Students new to DCC must complete an application for admission prior to registering for classes. The process is easy. To get started, visit for information on becoming a student.
