“DCC Day In Halifax County�? Set August 6


DANVILLE, VA July 26, 2015 -- Come, explore careers, learn, have fun and get enrolled during “DCC Day in Halifax County.�? The Danville Community College open house event is set for Thursday, August 6, between 2 and 6 p.m., in the Innovation Center at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC), 820 Bruce St., in South Boston.

"We look forward to showcasing the many programs, services and training offered by DCC,�? says Andrea Burney, Director of Public Relations. “This is a great opportunity for prospective students, parents, school teachers and others to see what we offer, meet the faculty and college officials, discuss financial aid and scholarship options, and, most importantly, get enrolled for the fall semester.�?

Burney adds that attendees will get a first look at some of the college’s newest offerings, such as the dimensional inspection and the hospitality career studies certificate programs. The dimensional inspection one year training slated to start this fall posts entry-level starting salaries of $17- $25 per hour for graduates. Fall semester classes begin August 24.

“Just think, in a year or less, you could get the training you need for an entry-level job in high demand career fields,�? Burney adds. “You can also get started on earning your bachelor’s degree through a variety of articulation agreements that we have with four-year colleges and universities.�?

Information will also be provided about free “Try It To See If You Like It�? explore courses being offered prior to the start of the fall semester. The courses include “Topics in Advanced Manufacturing�? (welding, precision machining, industrial maintenance and electrical/electronics), “Topics in Information Technology�? (network operating systems, Cisco networking, virtualization technology, and other IT training), and “Topics in Hospitality Careers�? (food service, tourism, lodging and guest services occupations).

In addition, the College is offering up to a 25% reduction in tuition for certain courses. To qualify for the explore or reduced tuition courses, you must be a high school graduate out of school for at least one year and never attended college; or enrolled in a GED program or be a GED completer, or a first generation college student, meaning neither parent has a bachelor’s degree.

Burney says in addition to the information sharing, there will be refreshments, prizes and giveaways.

“This will be a fun, relaxed afternoon that I am sure you will enjoy and at the same time, learn more about Danville Community College,�? Burney notes.
