DANVILLE, VA, April 3, 2015 – Vickie Taylor, long-term advisor for Danville Community College’s Upsilon Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society, has received the 2015 Continued Excellence Award for Advisors. Taylor, Assistant Professor of Sociology, will be recognized during the honor society’s annual convention in San Antonio, Texas, April 16-18. Taylor will receive a commemorative medallion.

Taylor is among 31 recipients chosen for the Continued Excellence Award for Advisors by a panel of judges from worldwide nominees. The award spotlights the outstanding accomplishments of advisors who have served at least four years and have previously won a Distinguished Advisor Award. Taylor has been an advisor for the DCC PTK chapter since 1988, and recently joined the chapter in celebrating its 45th anniversary on the DCC campus.

Advisors selected for the prestigious Continued Excellence Award have made notable contributions to the growth of the individual chapter members, served as the chapter’s advocate on campus, and encouraged the chapter to be actively involved on the local, regional and/ or international level of the honor society.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi, is the largest honor society in higher education with 1,285 chapters on college campuses in all 50 of the United States, plus Canada, Germany, the Republic of Palau, Peru, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the British Virgin Islands, the United Arab Emirates and U.S. territorial possessions. More than three million students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately 134,000 students inducted annually. DCC’s Upsilon Phi Chapter has a student membership of about 40.
