DANVILLE, VA, April 20, 2015 – A non-credit class at Danville Community College this spring offers welders an opportunity to earn industry certifications and advance their career.

“Non-Credit Aluminum Gas Metal Arc Welding and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Aluminum? (WELD 2000-90, #76318) will meet on Mondays and Fridays from 4 to 8:30 p.m., in the Charles R. Hawkins Engineering and Industrial Technologies Building, Room 41. The class will meet from April 27 through May 22.

“The main objective is for the students to earn certifications from the American Welding Society in either Gas Metal Arc Welding or Gas Tungsten Arc Welding,? said Welding Instructor Herb Hardy. “The class is designed to help the students advance in their current occupation or provide them opportunities for new employment. The more credentials you have, the more money you can earn.?

The class is targeted toward experienced welders who wish to upgrade their skills. Prospective students must be able to demonstrate to the instructor that they are capable of performing gas metal arc welding and gas tungsten arc welding processes prior to enrolling in the class, Hardy said.

Offering the non-credit course is part of DCC’s overall plan to expand its welding program to meet industry demand. The College is constructing a new facility to house the welding program, with a projected completion date of fall 2016. The facility will feature new equipment and additional welding stations to accommodate more students.

The cost of the non-credit welding class is $650. Scholarship opportunities are available. For more information, call Herb Hardy at 434.797.8545 or click here.
