DANVILLE, VA, Sept. 23, 2014 – Danville Community College (DCC) has been named one of Virginia Living Magazine’s “Top High Schools and Colleges? for 2014. The list appears in a special bound-in supplement to the magazine’s October 2014 issue. DCC, one of 23 colleges in the Virginia Community College System, serves the City of Danville, and Pittsylvania and Halifax Counties.

The “Top High Schools and Colleges? list recognizes innovation and excellence in secondary and higher education in the Commonwealth across five categories: Arts & Humanities; Science, Math and Technology; Capital Improvements; Performing Arts; and Health & Medicine. DCC was recognized in the Science, Math and Technology category for its precision machining technology program, and its emphasis on women’s education in non-traditional career fields.

The schools appearing on the Top High Schools and Colleges list are ones that have instituted programs or recently begun capital improvements aimed at strengthening students’ experiences in and beyond the classroom. DCC’s precision machining technology program is expanding to eventually include more than 20,000 square feet of lab and classroom space, and a capacity to serve more than 100 students. The two-year program has a near 100 percent job placement rate, and trains students for employment in occupations available in industrial manufacturing shops.

The special “Virginia Living? October issue is currently available on newsstands. “Virginia Living? magazine celebrates all things Virginia, and has a readership of more than 500,000.
