Shannon Hair and Bruce Scism

Dr. Bruce Scism, Danville Community College President, right, is on hand to cngratulate Shannon Hair, Executive Director of the DCC Educational Foundation, on his award as 2013 Outstanding Private Fundraising Professional.

DANVILLE, VA, November 14, 2013 – Shannon L. Hair, Director of Development and Executive Director of the Danville Community College Educational Foundation, recently received the 2013 Outstanding Private Fundraising Professional Award from the Council for Resource Development (CRD). Hair was recognized for this national award because of his fundraising efforts on behalf of the college. The honor is part of the CRD’s Campus Impact Award program, which recognizes individuals who make a significant impact on a community college and students. Based in Silver Spring, Md., CRD includes 1,700 members and represents 750 community colleges throughout the United States.

Hair, who is just the seventh recipient to earn the honor and the first within the Virginia Community College System, received the award during the council’s annual meeting recently in Washington, D.C. He joined DCC in 2010 and launched the college’s first major gifts campaign, “The Power of One?, which has raised more than $10 million in two years. The campaign focused on scholarships, student success, a 21st Century Fund and a Rapid Response Fund.

Before joining DCC, Hair spent 12 years with Dewberry Inc., where he eventually became manager of economic development. He serves on the Danville Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees and on the boards of directors of the Danville Public Schools Education Foundation, Danville-Pittsylvania County Business Development Center, Danville Science Center and Womack Foundation.
