DCC PLANS 7th ANNUAL CONVOCATION

DANVILLE, VA, September 20, 2011 - Danville Community College students, faculty, staff and administrators will observe the Seventh Annual Fall Convocation, on Thursday, September 22, at 11 a.m. The Convocation will be held in Oliver Hall (Temple Building), and will feature an opportunity for students to pledge their support for academic integrity, honesty and excellence.

Dr. B. Carlyle Ramsey, DCC President, said that the Convocation is a tradition which gathers together faculty, staff, administrators and students at the beginning of the school year. The event is also an opportunity to display academic regalia and other symbols such as the college’s mace.

“(Convocation) complements our Quality Enhancement Plan, which has the theme: Enhancing Student Learning and Success through Academic Integrity,” Ramsey explained.

This year’s speakers will be DCC alumni Debra Creasy Carlson and J. Richard Carter. Carlson joined American National Bank in 2009, after practicing law in Danville for 18 years. She is active with the DCC Alumni Association, recently completing three years as President, and now serving as liaison to the DCC Educational Foundation. Carter is Chief Executive Officer of Engineered Building Structures of Virginia Inc., a general contractor company serving the commercial and residential markets. He received a Diploma in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration from DCC in 1969. He lives in Charles City, where he is the owner of Clearview Farm and Ranch. He raises alpacas for breeding, show and sale.
