DANVILLE, VA, June 15, 2011 - Two Danville Community College employees have been honored for outstanding accomplishments for 2011. They are John Wilt and Alice Walker.

John Wilt, Associate Professor of Administration of Justice, received the Outstanding Faculty Award. He came to DCC in 2001 and has served as Administration of Justice program coordinator and as advisor to the Justice Club. He has an associate degree and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alaska, and a second bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Kansas State University. He is also a Certified Security Trainer (CST) and a Certified Protection Specialist (CPP). He has revised the Administration of Justice curriculum, and now features three specializations - law enforcement, corrections and protective services. In addition, many of his ADJ courses are offered online and off campus at Green Rock Correctional Institution and at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center.

Wilt is involved with several professional organizations such as the American Society of Criminology, Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, American Society for Industrial Security and the American Correctional Association. He also regularly attends conferences of the Virginia Association of Criminal Justice Educators, where he has served as past president and currently is newsletter editor. In the community, he is active with Danville Crime Stoppers, and serves as treasurer of the Gang Prevention Coalition and Chapter 240, Air Force Association.

Alice C. Walker, Financial Services Specialist in the Business Office, received the Outstanding Staff Award. Walker, who has worked at DCC for more than 20 years, was recognized for her commitment to student success. Walker serves as an advisor to the Student Leadership Program, which she co-sponsors. She was a participant in the DCC Leaders’ Academy and serves on numerous college committees, including Black History Month, Women’s Awareness Month, Alliance for Excellence and African-American Culture Club. In the community, she teaches African Dance classes, and swimming instruction at the YWCA.
