 Traci Daniel

DANVILLE, VA, August 23, 2011 – Danville Community College alumna Traci Daniel has been named to coordinate the Finish Line initiative, a project to identify and inform students who are within 15 credit hours of receiving an associate degree about the options available to them for completing the credential. The New College Institute in Martinsville received approximately $165,000 in funding from the Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission to partner with DCC, Patrick Henry Community College and Southside Virginia Community College, along with other higher education entities and community organizations to offer this new initiative.

A native of Danville, Daniel has been a part of the DCC family since 2002 when she started as a student and teacher at the campus child care center through the college’s work-study program. She received an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Early Childhood Education in 2004. Later, she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Mary Baldwin College in 2009 and her Master of Education Degree from Liberty University in 2010.

For the past five years, Daniel has served as the Director of the Families First Children's Center located on the DCC campus and has been an adjunct instructor at the college. She is married and has two children.

The Finish Line Initiative is expected to impact more than 41,000.citizens in Southside region who have partial college credit and need only a few more credits to receive an associate degree or other type of credential. It is expected that these citizens would likely continue their education into a baccalaureate degree program. Daniel will be responsible for coordinating the initiative within the DCC service region which includes the City of Danville, Halifax County and Pittsylvania County.

"I am so excited to be a part of the Finish Line Initiative! I know there are many citizens in our community who will greatly benefit from this project. Being a non-traditional student myself, I feel like I will really be able to relate to these students,? Daniel says noting that during her entire college career, I juggled fulltime work and family responsibilities.

“That's what they need- -someone who understands their situations and concerns,? Daniel continues.? I am ready to work with them and help guide them through their college experience at DCC. We want to show them that there really is a Finish Line in their future."
