DCC Alumnus Shannon Hair Named Director Of Development

DANVILLE, VA, October 18, 2010 – Shannon L. Hair of Danville has been named Director of Development at Danville Community College. Hair comes to DCC from Dewberry, Inc., where he has been employed for the past 12 years, most recently as Manager of Economic Development. He began his new duties on Oct. 18.

Hair is a graduate of DCC, receiving his Associate of Applied Science Degree in General Engineering. He later earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, with classes taken at the time through Old Dominion University’s TeleTech Net program located on the community college campus. Hair is also a graduate of the Virginia Industrial Development Institute, the Economic Development Institute at Oklahoma University, and the Basic Economic Development Course through the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).

Active in the community, Hair serves as President of DCC’s Alumni Council and a member of DCC’s Advisory Committee for the Engineering and Drafting programs. He is also a member of the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, YMCA Board of Directors, Virginia Economic Development Association, Southern Economic Development Council, and the International Economic Development Council. He is also past vice chair of the Downtown Danville Association and past secretary and treasurer of the Rotary Club of Danville.

In his new position, Hair will also serve as the Executive Director of the DCC Educational Foundation and be responsible for implementing and executing the College’s gift and fundraising activities and assisting in activities which promote and strengthen the College’s and Foundation’s programs. Currently, the College in the midst of its first-ever Major Gifts Campaign with plans to raise more than $7 million with the following initiatives: increasing access to scholarships to address critical workforce careers, enhancing student support to help students successfully obtain their degrees, providing cutting-edge education and training to support faculty and students now and into the future, and meeting regional workforce development needs.

“As a former student, and now alumnus, I know first-hand that DCC is a great institution, offering the kinds of quality programs and services that we need in this area,? Hair says. “I am looking forward to working closely with the faculty, staff, students, alumni and the communities that we serve in Danville, Pittsylvania County and Halifax County. As we partner together we can make DCC an even greater resource in this region.?
